About Shawn Umphries
A lot of people have asked me why I travel across the country, away from friends and family for long stretches of time just to "drive a car". And each time I answer that question I, inevitably, get more blank stares than not. But each time my answer is the same. It's simple really. I love cars. I love to drive. And I love to race.
I've been around race tracks most of my life. I've been blessed with the opportunity to visit and drive a lot of tracks in the U.S. from Laguna Seca on the west coast to Barber in Alabama to Mid-Ohio, Sebring, Watkins Glen, Road Atlanta, VIR and even Daytona.
I've also had the opportunity to drive some amazing cars. Miatas around Thunderhill, GT350s at Miller Motorsports Park, Alcohol/Funny cars at SMP...I can't remember the time I ever said no when somebody handed me keys. And at the end of the day, I think that's why I'm ok with traveling around the country to do what I do. I get to teach people what I've learned over the years and, on occasion, I get to drive some pretty awesome cars around some pretty awesome tracks...and hopefully it doesn't stop anytime soon.
